The McDonald's Collectors Club was established in 1990 in Fremont, Ohio with 18 charter members. Linda Gegorski, a collector since the early 1980's, rented the Fremont Holiday Inn Ball Room and offered tables to approximately 50 people who had subscribed to two fast food newsletters. The intended idea was to form friendships and share information. She felt many would attend since Fremont, OH is an exit off the Ohio Turnpike. Charter members came from Chicago, Michigan, Toledo, Ohio, and the Cleveland, Ohio area. For a whole day they traded, bought and gave each other McDonald items. No one wanted to leave and they decided in the afternoon to form a club with the name McDonald's Collectors Club.

The Charter members chose Linda as the first president and Jim Wolfe of Stowe, OH as the secretary since he was a long time member and charter member of the Coca Cola Club. His knowledge of club structure resulted in the original by-laws. Harry Oberest was treasurer but was soon replaced by Jim Gegorski.

The membership had steadily grown until 2000 when the whole collectibles market started a decline and internet trading grew. In 1998 the membership was over 1300.

The club offers memberships for individuals and families, both USA and International. Four newsletters are written each quarter and they contain articles about the club activities, chapter activities, collectibles, show and sale schedules, advertisements and want ads. The advertisements are free to members.

Club membership pins and convention pins are given with membership or when a member registers for the annual convention. 

The club has an on going relationship with McDonald's corporation but is a private club. The club does not sell Happy Meal toys, older memorabilia, or items found in retail stores. The club does not sell items from any of the McDonald's Corporation catalogs.

All officers, committee chairman, and convention committee members are volunteers. No one is paid a salary.
